I was in Wyoming earlier this week. When calling around for motels, I was quoted a range between $145-205 per night. The lowest I was offered was $109 for a basic room with no pool or amenities. We decided to drive around Gillette and see what else was available. The first place we stopped at was Country Inn & Suites, a nice motel with waterpark attached. When inquiring about vacancies I was told there were some but they started at $156/night. I begged for a discount of any kind and the kind manager offered me the AAA discount for a rate of $136/night. I asked if there was anything else he could do for me, a poor college student. When I saw him hesitating I offered, "$109 for two nights?" He shrugged and said, "sure, why not." SCORE! In addition, he threw in 5 wristbands for 2 days at the waterpark, a value of $6 each, equaling a savings of $60 on that alone.
So: a savings of $47 per night + the waterpark tickets=a savings of $154!
I also need to add that they had the best FREE continental breakfast I've ever seen. Day 1 was scrambled eggs, bacon, oatmeal, breakfast burritos, waffles, and an array of fruits, yogurts, muffins and other quick snacks. Day 2 was the same but biscuits and gravy instead of eggs and bacon.
They also had overall wonderful service, happy and helpful staff, and a clean and welcoming appearance. I am VERY satisfied and will look for Country Inns from now on.
Good luck with YOUR wheeling and dealing! You'll never know if you don't try.
Keep in mind that it's the little things in life, and as a general rule, stay positive! :)
Peace.
