There was a bit of a stomach bug that made it's rounds here last weekend. Was happy to be feeling better by Monday evening.
After class Tuesday we students ventured to nearby Grecia for some shopping, followed by drinks, and then dinner at our professor Kathy's apartment. Was a good time! Waited for the bus for quite some time--the system could use some improvement. I've learned to keep some reading or homework on hand for times of sitting around waiting. They go by "Tico time" here, much different than how we rush around in the States. There are some lessons we could learn from the people of Costa Rica. "Pura Vida," a popular quote, is taken quite seriously here. The Pure Life, or Good Life. Life is meant to be lived.
Wednesday after class was lunch with classmates and the local pool for some swimming. Felt great to do some laps, it's going to be a Wednesday tradition.
Thursday was interesting...class was let out early (by mistake) so it ended up being daytime drinks and dance lessons. Fun time!
Friday I went to the Grecia farmers market. They have markets here that I envy hugely! So much fresh fruit year round, it's amazing. Ended up at a karaoke bar with Maria (from Denmark) and my host brother Kevin for a good evening.
Saturday was a school field trip to Volcan Arenal and Baldi Hot Springs. It was EXTREMELY cloudy (dangerous driving!) so we didn't get a good view of the volcano but the hot springs were amazing. A fun time on the bus, too. Lots of laughter. And we saw a sloth!!! Yes!!!
Sunday was several hours at the pool, a nice afternoon nap, and cake and conversation with my host family. Lots of homework throughout the day, our professors really lay it on us! I'm not complaining, just sayin'. :)
This week is more of the same, with a Caribbean beach trip planned for the weekend.
Stay warm, my Northern amigos! Sending love and warmth your way.
Peace.
